These high-performance R-CFLs passed rigorous specifications, as well as testing conducted by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) R-CFL Technology Innovation Competition that simulated the high-heat environment typically found in residential recessed downlights. These models successfully demonstrated an Average Rated Life of at least 6,000 hours in Elevated Temperature Life Testing (ETLT), which many far surpassed, and met minimum specifications for light output, beam angle, and maximum operating temperature.
