As light bulbs become more efficient, it is harder to shop based on the wattage of the bulb, as the amount of electricity used (watts) and the amount of light produced (lumens) are less and less related. The U.S. Department of Energy is helping consumers understand that "lumens" is a measure of a light bulb's brightness, not watts.
