Air cleaners should not just circulate and filter air in the vicinity of the air cleaner, but throughout the room or house - and should do so efficiently. When selecting a room air cleaner, calculate the square footage of the room where it's to be used (width x length), identify air cleaners with max area ratings equal to or greater than the room size, then compare the clean air delivery rates (CADR) and wattages to find the optimum air cleaner for the room.
The CADR is the volume of filtered air delivered by the air cleaner (whole house air cleaners do not have a comparable rating). To learn more, see www.cadr.org.
