Rigid ductwork is usually preferable to flex duct because the air will flow more freely, but rigid duct can be louder than flex duct. These are galvanized steel silencers for use with round rigid ducts, designed to reduce the perceived sound level of the system. Each silencer features rubber seals on the inlet and outlet ends. The duct connections are 1/8" smaller than the duct size.
