Because the color temperature of the lamps used in these fixtures is 6,000 degrees Kelvin, the fixtures will provide a much whiter light than that offered by incandescent bulbs and many other compact fluorescents. A whiter light may be able to increase contrast and clarity on reading materials, which may, in turn, reduce eyestrain. The ballast used in these lamps is electronic, so there will be none of the flickering that is common with many magnetically ballasted lamps. Two colors are available, ivory or graphite. The orientation of the head can be adjusted by repositioning the gooseneck arm.
